Southend United have turned to Sol Campbell as their new manager.
The League One side have taken their time to replace Kevin Bond but have now opted for the former England international.
Campbell played just under 650 games during his playing career with spells at the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Portsmouth, Newcastle United and Notts County.
He got his first managerial job in League Two with Macclesfield Town last November when the Cheshire side were rock bottom of the Football League.
However, after eight wins and 12 draws from 30 games, Campbell was able to pull off the great escape with the Silkmen. He remained at the Moss Rose over the summer but resigned from his position as manager last month after just games into the new season.
Southend find themselves in the relegation zone and lost 7-1 at home to Doncaster Rovers last night so will need Campbell to rescue them this season like he did with Macclesfield last season.
Here is how their fans have reacted on Twitter to his appointment-
Whilst I don’t think it’s the right appointment, I can’t deny that there is a bit of excitement at the prospect of them using their contacts in the game to improve this lacking squad and make a push up the table. Either way, they need the support! #UTB

Got a good feeling about this one. Campbell did a brilliant job at Macclesfield last season. Great to see Hermann Hreiðarsson and Andy Cole as part of the coaching team too! #Blues https://t.co/i3YRJlC27P
