West Brom set to offer former striker deal after impressing on Dubai training trip

West Brom will reportedly offer free agent attacker Giles Barnes a contract with the club after impressing during training on The Baggies’ mid-season trip to Dubai.

West Brom manager Darren Moore decided to make the most of a nine-day break in fixtures by taking his side to Dubai for a mid-season training trip. Former Baggies attacker Giles Barnes joined the squad on their trip and will be offered a contract with the club, The Sun (via This is Futbol) are reporting.

The attacker will be offered a deal with West Brom after he undergoes a fitness test. His deal will run through until the end of the season until May, giving Barnes time to try and prove that he is worthy of an extension by helping Moore in their Championship promotion push.

Barnes came through the academy at Derby County, where he went on to play for four years. He played for The Rams on 94 occasions, scoring 13 goals during his time at Pride Park. In his time at Derby, he played alongside current Baggies boss Darren Moore, who he could be set to reunite with.

He then went on to spend a season with West Brom before moving to Doncaster Rovers on a free transfer.

After leaving England, Barnes has gone on to play for a host of American sides. The 30-year-old played for Houston Dynamo for four years, playing 130 times and scoring 33 goals. Since then, he has had short stints with Vancouver Whitecaps, Orlando City, Colorado Rapids and Mexican side Club Leon.
